Made in the West is proud to reveal our fantastic event poster for 2022! With its many creative nuances and local references, we think it skillfully captures the spectacular rise of our Western Sydney creative community!
Catie Boffa is a Western Sydney University student currently enrolled in the final year of her Visual Communications degree and she loves telling stories through her designs.
“I think I just love to create – looking back now, I couldn’t really see myself choosing to do anything else, and I can’t imagine myself doing anything other than design at this point in my life. There’s something so rewarding about being able to use my work to tell stories.“
Catie took her inspiration from vintage circus posters and tarot cards, and she was adamant that she wanted a whimsical and magical style that responded to this year’s poster brief.
“I didn’t want it to be too grounded because I feel like that sense of fantasy is really important for something as celebratory and artistic as a film festival.”
We're so glad she shot for the moon! We think Catie’s design perfectly encapsulates the vibe of our 11th annual festival and we could not be more proud to have her poster up in lights at the cinema this year.
Catie is part of the final year student team working with Burrow Design Studios this year.
“Working in a more professional context is such an educational experience, and I learnt so much about the way I work and how to respond to a real life brief and work to a professional schedule. It was just a very encouraging and friendly environment all around and I’m so grateful to be able to have this experience.”
And she was pretty shocked when she found out that her design was chosen!
“I just stared at the email for like five minutes, then had to just get up and jump around for a bit. I was so happy because I put so much work into the poster, it was just a very surreal experience”.

Since 2020, we’ve been running our Online Festival for folks at home to get involved, but this year we’re upping the ante and going BIG – like all-new genre-packed summer-long-festival BIG!! – and we can’t wait to tell you all about it.

If you have made a short film featuring cast, crew or locations from Western Sydney, ENTER YOUR FILM NOW! Hopefully we'll be watching YOUR FILM on the 3-storey Vmax cinema screen at EVENT Cinemas this November.
