Congratulations to all 28 film finalists screening at Made in the West this year!
With three sessions, including two V-Max cinema screenings and our first ever online festival featuring all 28 finalist films, we’re stoked to be able to showcase more Western Sydney-made short films this year than ever before.
As always though, there can only be one winner!! Well actually, there are 10 award winners this year whose work has been viewed and nominated by each of our festival judges!! Thank goodness for our judging panel who have all been viewing this year’s films to bring about a collective score for each film in our Official Selection, all of whom are competing for a great swag of awards and prizes, thanks to our sponsors!
We’re announcing the 2020 prize haul later this weekend so stay tuned for the news!
The judges decide the winners of our two beautiful trophies for ‘Best in the West’ indie film and ‘Best Student Film’, as well as 8 individual category award winners for Best Director, Screenplay, Cinematographer, Editor, Sound Design, Original Score, Actress and Actor… did we miss anyone?
Actually, we know there are SO many more talented creatives working behind-the-scenes on these films to create the spectacular films in the festival line-up this year. A huge congratulations should go out to all of them -- we wish we could include more of you in the awards list this year!
The Official Selection are the TOP 20 films of the year and all are in the running to take home the 2020 awards and trophies, as voted by our judges - nominees will be announced at the end of next week!

Please put your hands together for these 20 amazing artists whose films will be screened at the VIP Premiere Awards Night!
If you’re attending our 7pm VIP Premiere Awards Night as an entrant filmmaker, finalist or special guest this year, then your vote will decide who takes home the Audience Choice Award! This unique trophy is highly coveted among local filmmakers because let’s face it, there’s nothing like receiving recognition among an audience of your peers and particularly in a room full of such talented filmmakers as we’ll have there on the night!
And of course, now it’s time to remind you that the final judge at Made in the West this year is indeed YOU, film lovers and fans across the world!
If you’re lucky enough to attend our first ever Made in the West Marathon at EVENT Cinemas on Saturday 21 November at 8pm - screening right next door to the VIP Awards Night - then YOUR VOTES will help determine the inaugural Made in the West People’s Choice Award!
The 2020 Made in the West MARATHON will feature all the top films from the Official Selection PLUS an additional 8 finalist films that we think you’re going to LOVE! Tickets open early next week!
But if you’re not in Western Sydney, or even Sydney for that matter, or the state of New South Wales, or even in Australia, then guess what?? We’ve got you covered too!
ALL 28 finalist films will be included in our first ever Online Film Festival which will feature highlights from the red carpet, interviews with local filmmakers, heaps of fun and festivity in a HUGE 3-hour marathon of films!! Complete with intermission breaks so you can refresh your drinks and not miss a thing, your very own online host for the night, and of course, a digital voting process so you can be part of the action -- your vote will help us award someone home with our inaugural People’s Choice Award!!

Made in the West Marathon will be hosted by none other than Roscoe from The Pagey Train fame, so you can bet your ass it’s going to be a pretty entertaining night for everyone involved (including us!) so book your tickets soon and join us at the biggest night of the year for local filmmakers!
