You'd best prepare yourselves, because this year’s festival is going to be our best ever! If you haven’t entered your short film yet, this Friday 10 November at midnight is your deadline – SUBMIT YOUR FILM NOW!
We don't want tell you what type of films you should be making, we just want you to make your films with Western Sydney filmmakers! That’s why the number one CRITERIA FOR ENTRY is that your film needs to include at least one cast member, crew member or set location from Western Sydney.
So we’re accepting short film submissions for TWO MORE DAYS ONLY. SUBMIT YOUR FILM and you could be going home with some of our amazing filmmaker prizes! Or, if you're one of our lucky winners, you'll snag one of the finest crystal trophies in town!
SO WHAT HAPPENS NEXT??
JUDGES: Our panel of judges is going to receive a HUGE list of films on Saturday – the most films we’ve EVER had entered in Made in the West. And guess what? We’re going to reveal your 2017 judging panel this weekend too! We’re so pleased that these SEVEN amazing producers have offered their time to judge our films this year and we can’t wait to tell you who they are.
FINALISTS: Hold on to your hats – this year’s FINALISTS will be announced on Monday!! Watch this space early next week and you’ll be first to know which films are included in this year’s festival line-up. But with so many films submitted this year we must spare a thought for those who miss out (we wish we could show them all!) and we hope that even our semi-finalists will still join us on the night to show their support for Western Sydney on the big screen.

NOMINATIONS: The judges' final scores come back to us in just ten days, so we’ll announce the nominations for our individual category prizes in the final week before the festival. Keep an eye out for the nominee announcements on Monday 20 November because you could be up for a swag of prizes and all the accolades that come with being announced the Best Director, Best Cinematographer, Best Editor, Best Sound Design, Best Actress or Best Actor at Made in the West 2017.
FESTIVAL NIGHT: Saturday 25 November from 6pm, upstairs at The Paddo RSL. All finalists and nominees will be invited to come and share a glass of champagne with the judges and sponsors at our VIP meet & greet session – but don’t worry, if you're not in VIP we'll have a private bar you can lean up against and plenty of people to meet and talk films with before the show.
RED CARPET: Dress to impress, folks! There will be multiple snappers in the room so be prepared to have your photo taken! Gather your cast & crew for a great photo memento of the night under our festival banners and watch as our TV camera crew interviews the finalists on the red carpet.
AWARDS: Individual category prizes will be awarded throughout the night, so make sure you’re with us from the start! We’ll screen 20 awesome short films and while the judges will already have given us their votes for the top two trophies, you’ll also have a chance to put your film critic hat on and CAST YOUR VOTE for your favourite film. We’ll tally the votes and at the very end of the night and when we’re handing out the final trophies, we’ll present someone with the Audience Choice Award.
